PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid developer excellent in charging and fixing characteristics, and to provide a method for manufacturing a liquid developer by which such a liquid developer can be efficiently manufactured, particularly to provide a liquid developer excellent in charging and fixing characteristics in an environmentally friendly way. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid developer manufactures a liquid developer in which toner particles are dispersed in an insulating liquid, and comprises: a step of preparing a dispersion in which a dispersoid consisting of materials including a resin material and a colorant is dispersed in a dispersion medium; a dispersion medium removing step of removing the dispersion medium by spraying the dispersion as droplets to obtain dry fine particles; and a dispersion step of dispersing the dry fine particles in an insulating liquid, wherein the colorant is a colorant in which pigment particles having a cationic group on the surface are coated with a polymer having a repeating structural unit derived from an anionic polymerizable surfactant having an anionic group, a hydrophobic group and a polymerizable group.
