PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily detect an optical fiber on the side where axial misalignment has occurred by displaying it, when the axial misalignment occurs to each axial position. SOLUTION: The device for detecting axial misalignment of optical fibers includes a pair of right and left fiber positioning means 5 for butting and arranging the splicing end faces 3a of the optical fibers 3 against each other in an optical axis direction, and an image pickup means 7 for detecting the axial misalignment from the direction intersecting the arrangement face of the optical fibers 3 at right angles, and is arranged so that the image pickup means 7 can inform one or both of the misaligned axial positions by displaying them on the screen by numeric values or messages, respectively, when the optical fibers 3 are set in the right and left positioning means 5 with the splicing end faces made to but against each other.
