PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film forming technology capable of extending the tool lifetime in case of a tool and reducing the frictional resistance in case of a sliding member, a metal mold and the like, even when an alpha-alumina film is formed. SOLUTION: A method for producing an alpha-alumina-formed member on a surface of a base material comprises (1) a process for forming an alumina layer of an alpha-type crystal structure on at least a partial surface of the base material; and (2) a process for performing an ion bombardment treatment to the surface of the resulting alumina layer. By employing the method, the tool life can be extended in case of a tool, and the frictional resistance can be reduced in case of a sliding member, a metal mold and the like.
