PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder facilitated in the work for fitting a roll holder to a recording paper roll and capable of accurately reading a code. SOLUTION: A sensor displacing mechanism 33 is structured of an outer casing 62, an inner casing 63, a sensor holder 64 and a compression spring 65. The outer casing 62 is fixed to a printer main body, and the inner casing 63 is structured to be moved in the Y-axis direction. The sensor holder 64 holds a code reading sensor 32. When a paper feeding tray is pushed into the Y-axial plus direction, an abutment plate 39 pushes a receiver member 66. An engaging pin 74 provided in the sensor holder 64 is slid in a guide groove 73 provided in the inner casing 63 and a cam groove 67 provided in the outer casing 62. The code reading sensor 32 is moved to a reading position close to an end surface of a core, in which the code is recorded. A flange 13 can be provided with a grip part 17.
