PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus the frame rate of an output of which is not limited in an ordinary operating state, can control an optimum shutter speed under an imaging environment without no flicker production, and surely reduce flicker. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an automatic level adjustment means for controlling a gain of an amplifier on the basis of image statistic information calculated from image data and outputting a setting instruction of the shutter speed; a flicker detection means for detecting occurrence of flicker on the basis of the image statistic information; a control means for carrying out flicker detection control by outputting an instruction to bring the frame rate to a prescribed frame rate at least in an initial state, selecting a settable shutter speed on the basis of the detection output of the flicker detection means at that time, and instructing an automatic level adjustment means; and a timing generator for setting the shutter speed on the basis of the instruction from the automatic level adjustment means and setting the frame rate on the basis of the instruction from the control means.
