PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent misuses due to a combination of a straight tube lamp and a socket which do not fit, without having to change the total length of an apparatus body according to the lamp rated output. SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus comprises a straight tube lamp 1 having a base 2 at both ends, a pair of sockets 10, 10' equipped with a receptacle fitting 13 for engaging with the base 2, and an apparatus body 20 for supporting both sockets 10, 10'. An elliptical cylindrical engaging part 4a is provided at the base 2 of the straight tube lamp 1, and a pair of projected parts 5 are provided at the outside center in the short-diameter direction of the engaging part 4a, and a pair of recessed parts 13c to engage with each projected part 5 are provided at the receptacle fitting 13. Thus, only the base 2 of the straight tube lamp 1 and the receptacle fitting 13 of the socket 10, 10' which fit each other can be engaged, and without the changing of the total length of the apparatus body 20 according to the lamp rated output, misuse in combination with the straight tube lamp and the socket, which do not fit, can be prevented.
