PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device, wherein a passage for the operating current of a semiconductor element and a passage for a current passed through a parasitic diode are separated from each other or a semiconductor device, wherein the respective currents are independently detected and is thereby made possible, to easily carry out switching control with an optimum timing and to reduce the switching loss. SOLUTION: There is provided a semiconductor element 12, including a diode electrode 22, that is not in contact with N<SP>+</SP>-source regions 17A and 17B but is in contact with a body region 14; sensing electrodes 24A and 24B that are not in contact with the body region 14 but are in contact with the N<SP>+</SP>-source regions 17A and 17B; and an insulating film 25, that is positioned between the diode electrode 22 and the sense electrodes 24A and 24B and covers the boundaries B between the body region 14 and the N<SP>+</SP>-source regions 17A and 17B.
