PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light diffusing member in which a transmission screen of satisfactory picture quality such as resolution and contrast can be easily obtained, and to provide a transmission screen provided with the light diffusing member. SOLUTION: In the light diffusing member, a large number of light shielding parts 15 are arranged in a stripe shape on one side surface 10a of a sheet-like lenticular lens 10 of which the other side surface has a large number of convex cylindrical lenses 5 formed thereon and at least one light transmission layer 25 is formed so as to fill up the aperture between adjacent light shielding parts 15 by themselves respectively, wherein the following relation holds; 0<H<(P<SB>c</SB>-W<SB>2</SB>)/[2×tan(sin<SP>-1</SP>(1/n<SB>t</SB>))]. In the relation, the sign P<SB>c</SB>denotes a pitch between adjacent convex cylindrical lenses 5 by themselves, the sign W<SB>2</SB>denotes a width on the surface of the opposite side to the lenticular lens on the light shielding part and the sign H denotes the thickness of the light shielding part.
