PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overflow from a decomposition tank in a volume reduction apparatus by discharging only water contained in a mixed liquid (treating object liquid) of garbage and water and reducing the volume of treating object liquid, and to prevent occurrence of malodor by using water (e.g., fresh water) for carrying garbage in an underwater decomposition type garbage treatment apparatus. SOLUTION: The garbage treatment apparatus 1 is provided with a hopper 2, a disposer 3, the volume reduction apparatus 4 and a decomposition tank 5. The treating object liquid crushed in the hopper 2 is carried to the volume reduction apparatus 4, where part of water of the treating object liquid is discharged. The treating object liquid after reduction of volume is carried to the decomposition tank 5. Garbage contained in the treating object liquid carried to the decomposition tank 5 is decomposed by aerobic microorganisms in the decomposition tank 5. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
