PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spinning reel for fishing in which the base and rear face of a reel body are formed into a pointed head shape so as to be tapered toward the outside for preventing damaging by an external shock. SOLUTION: The reel body 1 is composed of a reel body 2 composed of a housing for housing and supporting a driving mechanism not shown and a body cover 3 for closing an opening 2a. The base 2d of the reel body 2 on the side opposite to a fishing rod-mounting part 2c in the upper part of the reel body 1 protrudes to the side of the body cover 3 and coincides with the full width of the reel body 1. A protruding part 2e of the pointed head shape tapered toward the outside is formed in the base 2d and a protruding part 2f of the pointed head shape outwardly tapered from the base toward a leg part 2b on the rear surface is formed to afford an outermost peripheral shape continuous from the base to the leg part 2b.
