The method involves receiving an emergency signal, preferably from a collision sensor or an airbag-control device, by a mobile phone over a short-range wireless interface of e.g. Bluetooth type. The mobile phone then sends an emergency call to an external control center via mobile radio communication. The mobile phone can be a standard portable Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone or, in an alternative arrangement, the emergency call can be transmitted over a wireless internet connection. Independent claims are included for : (1) an emergency call control device; and (2) a system for transmitting a vehicle-emergency call.
