<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of different output levels generated in a portable music player and a mobile phone, depending on an equipment type, causing a trouble of adjustment required for fitting the portable equipment type when listening by an external audio unit, and the problem of unfavorable sound quality even if increasing a volume in the mobile phone. <P>SOLUTION: In the music playback unit for portable equipment amplifying and outputting audio signals from the portable equipment 12 to speakers 13, 14, there are provided an equipment type discrimination means 21 for discriminating the type of the portable equipment 12 by use of a state signal from a connector for connecting a portable equipment connection cable 17, a volume/sound quality adjustment means 22 for outputting a volume/sound quality adjustment signal according to the type of the portable equipment 12 discriminated in the type discrimination means 21, and a volume/sound quality adjustment amplifier 20 for adjusting the volume and the sound quality of the audio signal inputted from the portable equipment 12, using the volume/sound quality adjustment signal from the volume/sound quality adjustment means 22.
