PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route guidance system that can make an occupant judge appropriately whether to go to a detour route and can guide the detour route at an optimum point. SOLUTION: A destination D is set, and the current location P is detected. an optimum route R0 from the current location P to the destination D is retrieved, and guiding is performed along the optimum route R0 to the destination D. Traffic information is acquired, and a traffic obstacle X that requires a detour from the optimum route R0 is detected. When a traffic obstacle X that requires a detour from the optimum route R0 is detected, a detour route R1 or R2 to the destination D that detours the traffic obstacle X is retrieved. Guiding is performed for the detour route R1 or R2 at a site A located before a prescribed distance La from a branching point B where branching is to be made from the optimum route R0 to the detour route R1 or R2.
