PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for maintaining the ejection characteristic of a recording head which can open and close an atmosphere releasing valve without applying vibration to a cap member when the ink suction action is carried out, without a new power source being installed. SOLUTION: The device 320 for maintaining the ejection characteristic of the recording head comprises a wiping means (217) movable so as to wipe the recording head 106, and an atmosphere releasing valve mechanism (219) which can send in the atmosphere by the opening and closing action through communication with a capping means (202) that seals the recording head 106. An acting part (303a) which acts an opening and closing force to the atmosphere releasing valve mechanism (219) is set at the wiping means (217) side.
