PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which response speed of a liquid crystal panel in an STN system for performing low duty drive is increased. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display in the STN system has: a signal electrode to which signal electrode voltage generated based on display data is applied; an opposite electrode to which opposite electrode voltage of duty of 1/2-1/16 is applied; and a liquid crystal layer held between the signal electrode and the opposite electrode, and to which liquid crystal drive voltage is applied by both electrodes. And it also has a switching period B in which first liquid crystal voltage corresponding to a first piece of display data is applied to the liquid crystal layer and liquid crystal drive voltage lower than second liquid crystal voltage corresponding to a second piece of display data is applied to the liquid crystal layer in timing A for switching from the first piece of display data to the second piece of display data.
