ANASTOMOTIC RING APPLIER DEVICE UTILIZING AN ELECTROACTIVE POLYMER

An anastomotic ring applier utilizing electro-active polymer is provided to generate independent mechanical actuation force to extend two parts of an anastomotic ring without requiring a transmission of a mechanical force along a length of a shaft. In a surgical apparatus for implanting an anastomotic ring device, a ring extension device(26) is structured to accommodate the anastomotic ring device and extend the anastomotic ring device by a mechanical actuation force. A power is provided to generate voltage. An electro-active polymer is structured to be operable to generate the mechanical actuation force in response to voltage generated by communicating with the ring extension device(26).
