A method and a device for shortening a file loading time in a mobile terminal are provided to display only a list of video files and select a desired video file from the list, not load a corresponding video file from an MOV box when initially reproducing the video file, thereby reducing the time required to load the file from the MOV box. A method for shortening a file loading time in a mobile terminal comprises the following steps of: setting file searching; displaying lists of files stored in a video file box; and loading a file of a list, selected from the displayed lists, from the video file box. The method for shortening the file loading time further comprises the following steps of: storing the video files; and recording the video file lists at the same time the video file is stored. The video file list is displayed by executing a "LoadInfoFilesMOV(a)" function.
