Polyester or copolyester partially oriented yarn is melt spun, preferably at wind-up speeds of 3500 to 5000 m/minute, from material containing small particles, preferably 0.1 to 0.6 %wt sized between 10 and 30 nm. The particles have a surface area of at least 100 m2>/g and are added to the starting materials during the polymer synthesis. The particles are inorganic, e.g. silicon dioxide, and can have surface functional groups that can react with the monomers or oligomers.
