A method for forming a metal coating film on a plastic substrate is provided to manufacture metal coating film formed plastic articles capable of replacing heavy metal parts by reinforcing weak physical properties of the plastic parts as compared with metal while maximally exhibiting inherent properties of plastic parts with inexpensive price and light weight. A method for forming a metal coating film on a plastic substrate comprises: performing activation treatment of the surface of a molded plastic substrate(1) through embossing or blasting to form an irregular face(5) on the surface of the substrate; and thermal spraying metal powder of a copper(Cu) alloy, aluminum(Al) alloy or nickel(Ni) alloy with high thermal fatigue strength and wettability onto the irregular face formed substrate, thereby melting the metal powder so that a metal coating film(2) is formed on the substrate while the molten metal powder is penetrated into the substrate around the irregular face.
