A wood softening method is provided to easily carve wood by softening the alder tree by dipping the alder tree in fossil fuel like the mineral oil for the predetermined time and to decrease the shrinkage rate of wood. The wood softening method comprises the steps of: preparing articles to be processed by cutting the wood in the proper size according to an object to be carved and softening the wood by absorbing the fossil fuel into fibrous cells of the article by putting the article into a tank filled with the fossil fuel. The fossil fuel is mineral oil. The article to be processed is dipped in the mineral oil for several minutes or 3 hours. The wood is the alder tree.
