A method and a system for referring to the identity of a person by using a mobile video phone are provided to accurately discriminate the identity of a target person although the person forges his/her identification. A mobile terminal(110) includes a camera, wirelessly transmits an image of a target person captured through the camera to ask his/her identity, and receives and displays an identity discrimination result on a screen. An identity checking server(140) receives the image, compares it with previously stored identity information, and provides an identity checking result to the mobile terminal(110). An identity checking database(142) stores the image of the target person and identity information as data.
