Use of histone deacetylase inhibitors for the prevention or treatment of joint destruction

A pharmaceutical composition and method for treating, preventing or reducing the risk of joint destruction in a subject who suffers from a joint or musculoskeletal disease. The method comprises administering a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor or in conjunction with other agents to inhibit degradation and resorption of cartilage and bone in the joint.
