An SIP-based session setup method and apparatus are provided to allow a terminating user to actively participate in an active SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) session setup by adding service conditions requested by the user in an SIP RESPONSE message and transmitting it. A UE#1(User Equipment #1) transmits capability information, preferred by an originating side for SIP session set-up, or supportable capability information to a P-CSCF(Proxy-Call Session Control Function)#1 through an SIP INVITE message(S701). The SIP INVITE message is transferred to a UE#2(S702). The UE#2 analyzes the capability information included in the message and determines the capability information preferred by the UE#1 or the supportable capability information(S703). The UE#2 transfers the determined service conditions through an SIP RESPONSE to a P-CSCF#2(S704). The SIP RESPONSE message is transferred to the UE#1 sequentially via certain entities. The UE#1 receives the SIP RESPONSE, analyzes and determines service conditions currently available for the UE#2, re-creates an INVITE message or determines available service conditions, and then establishes a session(S706). |
