Video signals such as received television signals are suitably recorded, allowing for use in an external device having a different aspect ratio. The aspect ratio of an original video signal is converted so that an input image will exhibit a unity of the circularity and also exhibit a maximum size within a screen size specified when a recorded video signal is reproduced. Then, a background signal is produced that has the same size as the specified screen size or has a size required for a video combination. The produced background signal is added to the surround of a main video signal, thereby establishing a desired video signal size to generate an image, for record, which will exhibit an aspect ratio suitable during reproduction. |
