The invention relates to an installation which is used for the purification of an aqueous effluent that is loaded with organic matter. The inventive installation is of the type that comprises at least one reactor (1) having at least one inlet (9) for the effluent, at least one effluent outlet (10), at least one vent (5), and means (2) for injecting at least one oxidant gas. According to the invention, the reactor contains a bed of material (3) that can be used to catalyse the oxidation reaction of the organic matter in the effluent and/or to absorb said organic matter. The invention is characterised in that the reactor also comprises an integrated filtration device having immersed membranes (4) and in that the reactor (1) defines a single chamber which is used to perform the effluent-oxidation and -filtration treatments, said chamber being equipped such that the effluent and the oxidant gas are injected co-currently in the direction of the bed of catalyst material (3) and, subsequently, the membrane filtration device (4).
