A mobile communication terminal having a function for distinguishing counterfeit money and a method thereof are provided to check whether money is the counterfeit money by confirming whether fluorescent security fiber and fluorescent ink, inserted into the money, emit light by irradiating predetermined ultraviolet rays to the money so that a user can easily distinguish the counterfeit money by using the mobile communication terminal. A mobile communication terminal having a function for distinguishing counterfeit money comprises the followings: a UV LED(UltraViolet Light Emitting Diode)(109) which has predetermined LEDs and irradiates ultraviolet rays; and a controller(105) which operates the UV LED(109) and controls the UV LED(109) so as to irradiate the ultraviolet rays to money. The mobile communication terminal further comprises the followings: a memory(107) which stores predetermined help information about distinction of the counterfeit money; and a display(108) which displays the help information about distinction of the counterfeit money, stored in the memory(107), according to the control of the controller(105).
