A lighting apparatus of a washing machine is provided to brighten the inside of the drum and increase the reliability of the user by supplying the power to the lighting unit formed at the inlet part by a switch. A lighting apparatus of a washing machine is composed of: a body(10) whose one side is formed with an inlet part(1); a drum(5) rotatably installed in the body and formed with an inner receiving space where the laundry is received; a door(6) for opening and closing the inlet part of the body; and a lighting unit(100) formed at the inlet part to light the inside of the drum and to allow the user to see the inside of the drum. The lighting unit contains a lighting container(101) formed with a square-shaped cylindrical shape and mounted at the discharge path of the gasket, and a lamp(103) installed in the light container.
