An apparatus and a method for providing a location information service based on DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and an LBS(Location-Based Service) in a mobile terminal are provided to provide various area information related to a particular place when a user desires them. A DMB agent(101) receives broadcast data and broadcast-related particular place information through a broadcast channel from a DMB broadcasting center and displays the corresponding broadcast for a user. When the user performs an interest-registration for a particular place during the broadcasting, a DMB handler(102) checks and transfers information about the corresponding place through the broadcast channel. A memory(103) stores and manages information on the particular place. When the user requests checking of additional information about the particular place, an LBS-interworking application(104) displays the corresponding place and various information related to the area for the user by interworking with an LBS platform(10/40).
