PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of recognizing the control states of other control sections while restraining load on the control sections, and to provide a control method for the projector. SOLUTION: In the case where a signal has not been inputted for a predetermined time (first predetermined time T1) from the first control section 11, the second control section 12 transmits a response demand to the first control section 11. If no response is given in a predetermined time (second predetermined time T2), it is determined that communication with the first control section 11 is not possible and also the control of the first control section 11 is in an abnormal state due to abnormal communication or an abnormal operation of the first control section 11.
