Provided are a fire retardant of magnesium hydroxide which has excellent fire retardancy and improved filling into resin, and which is useful as a filler of resin for semiconductor bag, and a method for preparing the magnesium hydroxide with a low cost. The magnesium hydroxide particle has a crystal appearance of hexagonal cylinder which comprises hexagonal base having two top and bottom sides parallel to each other, and 6 circumferences formed between the bases. The particle is prepared by method comprising the steps of: adding a magnesium oxide powder having a crystal particle size of 50x10^-9 m or more which is obtained by pulverizing and screening raw magnesium oxide, to warm water of 100 deg.C or less; hydrating the magnesium oxide with high shear stirring; and then screening, washing, and drying the obtained solid. The resin composition comprises epoxy resin, hardener, mineral filler, and the magnesium hydroxide particle. |
