<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purification method of acidic impurities contained in an electrolyte for a lithium ion battery and to provide the lithium ion battery using the electrolyte. <P>SOLUTION: Halides other than a fluoride are added to the electrolyte for the lithium ion battery containing acidic impurities to convert the acidic impurities into hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen bromide (HBr), or hydrogen iodide (HI), after that, hydrogen fluoride (HF) is added to halides other than fluoride dissolved in the electrolyte to convert into hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen bromide (HBr), or hydrogen iodide (HI), and then generated hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen bromide (HBr), or hydrogen iodide (HI) is removed from the electrolyte.
