PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that which focusing point position is acquired through automatic focusing by conventional differentiation processing can not be predicted when a subject having fine unevenness, for example, which focusing point position is acquired can not be predicted when there are a plurality of focusing point positions. SOLUTION: For automatic focusing of a measuring instrument used for, for example, medical or industrial uses, a device for automatic focusing according to the present invention has a function of Fourier-transforming luminance levels of the video signal of a camera taking a picture of a microscope, finding frequency spectra of luminance levels, and further deciding frequency spectrum intensity in a featured frequency range of those frequency spectra as a focus value.
