PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner density adjusting device which can perform detection of liquid toner layer density little in change over time and is adaptive to a variation in liquid viscosity and in temperature of materials to be used by eliminating problems of clogging and abrasion which are caused by a pattern roller when the liquid toner layer density is detected. SOLUTION: A toner density detecting mechanism has a round bar formed with a groove, a belt which moves at right angles to the length of the round bar at a standstill, and a density sensor which measures the toner layer density of toner liquid to be measured on the belt. The toner liquid to be measured for density measurement is supplied upstream from the round bar, the toner liquid to be measured which is supplied is metered from the gap between the groove cut in the round bar and the belt, and a toner layer is formed on a downstream side, and the density sensor measures the toner layer density of the formed toner layer.
