The starting device (3) for a model motor is mounted on a drive rod and consists of a casing (30), an electric operating unit and a rope operating unit. The electric operating unit comprises an engagement wheel and a starter shaft, wherein the engagement wheel is fixed on the outer side of the drive rod of the motor. The engagement wheel on its outer side has a predetermined number of axially and eccentrically cut engagement slots which each accommodate an engagement tooth and spring element, wherein the engagement teeth mesh with slots in a rope pulley.
