<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device which can reduce the variation in light intensity when illuminating an object to be illuminated by a plurality of light emitting means, and also to provide a display unit having a high level of visibility and a superior display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting device includes a backlight which comprises LED trains LL1-LLn for illuminating a panel 3; light intensity control unit 12 for individually controlling the light emission of each LED trains; optical sensors 4a-4d for individually detecting the light intensity irradiated on each portion of the panel 3; light intensity determining portion 6 for determining a correlation among the light intensities irradiated on each portion of the panel 3; and a memory 7 for storing the information on the relationship between a change in light emission of each LED train and a change in light intensity irradiated on each portion of the panel 3. The light intensity control unit 12 monitors the determination results of the light intensity determining portion 6; and individually controls the light emission of each LED train based on the information on the relationship between a change in light emission of each LED train and a change in light intensity irradiated on each portion of the panel 3, so that the light intensity irradiated on each portion of the panel 3 may be uniform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
