PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overflow preventing device which is simple in structure, light in weight, and set at an entrance or the like of an ordinary dwelling, commercial facilities, or underground facilities to protect the house or the facilities from inundation. SOLUTION: The overflow preventing device is set at the entrance or the like of the house during inundation, and formed by connecting a plurality of foldable water impermeable boxes (10) together. When a risk of inundation occurs, the overflow preventing device is shaped into an adequate shape and set at the entrance of the dwelling or the commercial facilities, followed by charging water or a heavy material in the same, to thereby form an overflow preventing wall. The overflow preventing device has openable drain ports (18a) formed in the vicinity of a lower end thereof, and rainwater discharge ports (18a) formed in the vicinity of an outside upper end thereof for preventing rainwater falling in the box from overflowing to the interior of the house. The box has vertical frames (15) partitioning the interior thereof into a plurality of sections, which each have a communication port (15a) formed in the vicinity of a lower end thereof.
