PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a X-ray contrast medium excellent in imaging potential with a high safety. SOLUTION: The X-ray contrast medium is prepared by a super critical carbon dioxide method completely free from organic solvents including ethanol. The X-ray contrast medium comprises liposome which comprises a water soluble nonionic iodine based compound in the internal and external water phase of the lipid membrane as the imaging material and a physiologically acceptable auxiliary agent for preparation. The lipid membrane of the liposome comprises at least a phospholipid, a lipid having a polyethylene glycol group and sterols as the constituting components, and has 0.05-0.8μm of particle diameter and at least 80% of the lipid membrane are composed of 2-10 sheets of liposome, and the contrast medium contains 100-250 mgI/mL of iodine atom in the iodine based compound and 60-150 mg/mL of total lipids in the contrast medium.
