PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method, capable of coating through simple, precise, and uniform adjustment in the coating width direction of the gap between the tip of a coating head and a material to be coated. SOLUTION: The coating method comprises separately elevating the ends of a holding frame 7 that holds a coating head 6 with the use of an elevating apparatuses 8A and 8B that can be controlled individually, controlling the elevating apparatuses 8A and 8B by a control apparatus 12, so as to determine a standard point for positioning the coating head 6 based on height information obtained by causing the coating head 6 to come into contact with micrometers 15A and 15B installed on a side face of a surface plate 3 provided with a support face 3a for supporting a material to be coated, and positioning the coating head in the height direction through handling and controlling of an elevating amount from the standard point.
