PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for gas separation which is formed from soluble aromatic polyimide having a specific repeating unit and exhibits improved gas separation performance, in particular, when used for separating hydrogen gas from methane gas or nitrogen gas and to provide a gas separation method using the asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for gas separation. SOLUTION: The asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for gas separation is formed from the soluble aromatic polyimide having the specific repeating unit the tetracarboxylic acid component of which consists of a diphenylhexafluoropropane structure and a biphenyl structure and the diamine component of which consists of diamino-dibenzothiophenes, diamino-dibenzothiophene=5,5-dioxides, diaminothioxanthene-10,10-diones or diaminothioxanthene-9,10,10-triones and 3,3'-diamino-diphenylsulfones.
