Provided is an electromagnetic device (100) and a system (10) for making a coil (12) of the device. The coil has one or more tubular electric conductors (20) formed with at least one internal coolant passage (38) and the conductor(s) are wound to form one or more layers of turns separated by an insulation film. The system includes the steps of (a) feeding at least one hollow tubular conductor to travel along a path through a first forming station and a second forming station;(b) at said second station subjecting said conductor to forces deforming the conductor in a second plane that is substantially orthogonal to said first plane, and whereby said deformed conductor having its internal coolant passage formed with a substantially polygonal shaped cross-section; and (c) a coiling station arranged for forming the deformed conductor into a coil having one or more turns.
