Class 44 Relates to a sliding clasp fastener having two stringers each having a row of fastener elements along a beaded edge of the stringer, the elements each having a coupling head provided with two oppositelydirected abutment faces lying in the coupling plane of the fastener. According to the invention, the edge portion of each stringer extends in the coupling plane within the body of the element from the shank portion thereof as far as the central longitudinal axis of the fastener or close thereto. As shown, in which fastener elements 12 are die cast on beaded edges 14 of tapes 10, each element comprises a coupling head 16 which is shouldered in a plane A-A to form a projection 20 and providing an abutment face 22 for co-operation with a similar face on an adjacent element of the opposite row. A projection 24 provides another abutment face 26 in the plane of the face 22. A coupling projection 28 formed by the shoulder provides an abutment face 30 in the plane A-A but facing in the opposite direction to the face 22. The edge 14 of the tape extends in the plane A-A within the shank 18 of the element as far as or close to the central longitudinal axis B-B, such that when the fastener is closed, the abutment faces of one row of elements overlie the abutment faces of the other row. The elements, which may be cast direct on to the edge of a garment, may be made of zinc or zinc alloy or synthetic plastic. |
