A light emitting display and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by blocking driving power supplied to a data driving unit if a black image is displayed in at least one block. A light emitting display comprises a pixel unit(230); a j number of blocks(232,234,236,238) divided in the pixel unit and provided with respective pixels(240); a common power source connected with the pixels included in the blocks, in common; split power sources(ELVDD1~ELVDD4) connected with the pixels included in one of the blocks; first switching elements(SW1) installed between the split power source and the block; a frame memory(260) storing data(Data) of one frame supplied from the outside; and a luminance checking unit(270) checking the luminance of each block by using the data stored in the frame memory and turning on or off the first switching element correspondingly to the luminance.
