PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit long continuous printing without suspending the printing and make an image pattern of preliminary discharge difficult to visually recognize by simple control when preliminary discharge is made to a paper surface in a printing device using a recording head in which a plurality of nozzles to discharge inks are linearly arranged. SOLUTION: The inkjet printing device has a preliminary discharge performance counter 303 which counts the frequency of performance of preliminary discharge so as to decide which nozzles are to be made to make preliminary discharge with a predetermined discharge timing when a single or a plurality of nozzles are periodically made to preliminary discharge an ink on a recording medium during the recording operation of image data by a recording head 509, and decides on nozzles to be made to perform preliminary discharge with a preliminary discharge timing on the basis of a preliminary discharge nozzle selection value in which the bit position of the counted value of the preliminary discharge performance counter is transposed.
