PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein a column spacer and upper and lower substrates are firmly coalesced by forming divided alignment films and forming the column spacer in an alignment groove, and a method for fabricating the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposite to each other, a first alignment film formed on the second substrate while having a first alignment film groove in a predetermined portion, a first spacer formed between the first substrate and the second substrate correspondingly in the first alignment film groove, and a liquid crystal layer formed between the first substrate and the second substrate.
