PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transmissive screen and a projection type display apparatus with which an observer can observe a video even when the observer moves in a vertical direction by expanding a visibility angle in the vertical direction and to obtain a projection type display. SOLUTION: A cylindrical lens sheet 5 formed by connecting cylindrical lenses 5a in the vertical direction on a light exit surface expands a light beam projected from a projector 1 and a diffusion sheet 6 diffuses the light beam projected from the light exit surface of the cylindrical lens sheet 5. Consequently the visibility angle in the vertical direction is expanded, and even when the observer slightly moved in the vertical direction, the observer can observe a video.
