PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve engine output and reduce noise and reduce hydrocarbon quantity in exhaust gas in a diesel engine. SOLUTION: A direct spray type diesel engine consists of: a piston 11 constructing a cavity by a depressed part on a top surface; and a fuel injection nozzle 12 injecting fuel in a cavity 21 of the piston. Injection holes 32 having a plurality of cross points of axial center in a fuel injection nozzle 12 axial direction and opening direction of the injection hole in at least the fuel injection nozzle 12 axial direction, are made a pair of injection holes, plural pairs of injection holes are provided on the fuel injection nozzle 12, and an opening shape of a combustion chamber of a piston 11 is constructed in a polygon shape of pentagon or more.
