PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brush operating device for a cleaning machine, which is equipped with an interlocking mechanism for positively operating a spool in interlock with an operating lever. SOLUTION: The interlocking mechanism 15 is formed of a plate member 18 rotatable together with the operating lever 12, an operating member 23 for operating the spool 14a, and a link member 24 for linking the plate member 18 and the operating member 23 together. A front end of the link member 24 is linked to the plate member 18 via a pin member 25 so as to be relatively rotatable with respect to the plate member 18 and so as to maintain a constant relative locational relationship with respect to the same. Further a movable portion 28 which can change its longitudinal location by changing a screwing amount, is arranged at a rear end of the link member 24, and the movable portion 28 is linked to the operating member 23 via a pin member 29 so as to be relatively rotatable with respect to the operating member 23 and so as to maintain a constant relative locational relationship with respect to the same.
