The invention relates to an item of furniture (10), in particular a piece of office furniture or a piece of children's furniture, which comprises a body (14) from which an extension (11 13) can be pulled out in the direction of extension (19) along an extension path (27), said extension being guided along a guiding arrangement (20) on the body (14). On two lateral areas (28, 29) of the extension (11-13), which are arranged opposite to each other and which are parallel to the direction of extension (19), toothed wheels (30) which are coupled together in a synchronous manner engage with toothings (39) which are arranged on the body (14) in order to guide the extension (11-13) in a parallel manner, such that the extension does not block on the body, in a transversal manner in relation to the direction of extension (19). The toothings (39) are embodied as toothed sections (32, 33) on a front and/or rear end section (25, 26) of the extension path (27).
