The clothes drier comprises a vertical mast on which arms bearing the clothes line can move along a sliding star and are supported by spreading arms. The spreading arms are pivotally mounted on a holding star arranged on the mast by means of holding axes and on the bearing arms by means of articulated axes. The drier has an expanding body mounted on the mast which interacts with at least one spreading arm and/or counter body. The expanding body and counter body are spring-connected to each other by means of a coupling device in its rest position.
