<p>A hydrocarbon oil modifier which, when added to a hydrocarbon oil, e.g., gasoline, jet fuel, gas oil, heavy oil, or kerosene, modifies the hydrocarbon oil so that the hydrocarbon oil, when used as a fuel, can be burnt nearly completely. As a result, the exhaust gas can be reduced in the content of nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and suspended particulate substances, which are causative of air pollution. Furthermore, fuel efficiency is improved, and the consumption of hydrocarbon oils and the amount of carbon dioxide to be generated can be reduced. The hydrocarbon oil modifier is hence excellent in environmental preservation. It is further excellent in dispersibility in hydrocarbon oils and storability. The hydrocarbon oil modifier comprises: a liquid by-product of dry distillation comprising wood vinegar and/or bamboo vinegar obtained by the dry distillation of wood and/or bamboo; and sulfur.</p> |
